Hi
my name is Sheryl Cohen, I am an educational psychologist and a
mother of three. Over the past 10 years I have worked with children,
adolescents and parents. I have noticed that there are many areas
of difficulties that are common to all parents. That many parents
want to know how to introduce a new baby into the family, or how
to deal with sibling rivalry, or how to discipline. Unfortunately,
love is not enough to raise children. Parents need skills, and I
hope to give you these.
I
use my experience as a mother and as a therapist, but I am not a
perfect parent. I hope to dispel the myth of perfect parenting.
I prefer Dr. Winnicott's concept of "Good Enough" parenting.
Our aim as parents is to be good enough rather than to be perfect.
Just like there are no perfect children, so there are not perfect
parents. My aim in this Workshop is to share some ideas and skills
with you in raising children effectively. I have noticed that parents
prefer practical skills to deal with issues. I have also noticed
that parents multi-task. They spent lots of time in the car, and
can listen and drive at the same time, or listen and cook at the
same time.
With
this in mind I decided to develop a CD series to empower you as
parent, to give you the opportunity to develop your skills, to understand
your role as parent, to understand your children's emotional development
and in this sense to raise your children effectively...
